At URJA, through the Well Woman Project, we are building our resources to provide physical and psychological health care support and counseling for marginalized and vulnerable women and children.
Migrant women, women in prostitution nd women in distress often suffer from physical, sexual and psychological abuse. It gravely impacts their physical, reproductive, and mental health. Alcoholism and substance abuse within the family, especially among husbands further aggravates the problem limiting their access to health and other support services.
OVERALL OBJECTIVES OF THE WELL WOMAN PROJECT
Develop health related prevention programs for the physical, mental and social well being of marginalised women.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES :
- Ensure access to primary health care and counselling to community members.
- Build a cadre of trained counselors to provide individual and group therapy sessions to women.
- Conduct regular training and education programs on health, hygiene and HIV/AIDS.
ACTIVITIES
URJA has held 9 health camps in the community so far reaching out to more than 300 people. The objective of the Health camp is to extend health benefits to the residents of Purani Basti and to promote health seeking behavior amongst the community members. Door to door visits and community meetings are held to sensitise the community on health related issues.
